This is the accompanying PDF I use when teaching my Toe Up Afterthought Sock classes. It is written with the beginner knitter in mind

This 10 page digital workshop includes a breakdown of the different sections of toe up socks and explanations of techniques used including photo tutorials for:

  • Gauging in the Round
  • Judy’s Magic Cast On
  • Kitchener Stitch
  • Running Lifelines
  • Heel section

It allows for the knitter to make choices and modifications to suit their style. This pattern/recipe is written for circular needles (magic loop) however it can easily be modified for DPN’s.

This PDF includes a worksheet that will assist you in knitting the right size sock, or you can try on your sock as you knit. Measure your family and friends once and keep your worksheets for future use.

Any yarn can be used with any gauge you like. As there are endless possibilities for modifications it is hard to say exactly how much yarn you will need. A fun option is to knit the toe and heel in another colour, maybe even add the colour to the cuff as an accent.

Jimmy Beans has a free calculator to assist you in estimating how much yarn you will need
