Machine Knitting Workshop at XOXO Fibre

Curious about knitting machines? Come explore the fascinating world of machine knitting with Jess and Zora! From Victorian textile innovations to today’s “modern” home setups, they’ll introduce you to the technology that’s transformed knitting. 

You’ll get hands-on with different machines, watch quick demos, and discover how to speed up your next knit project. Jess and Zora will also cover how to combine machine-knitted pieces, like stockinette panels, with hand-knitting.

This workshop will be approximately 1-1.5 hours.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Jess Shirley from Kaiko.ca

Jess, the creative director and maker behind Kaiko, has been immersed in fiber arts for over a decade, starting with crochet and later delving into knitting machines two years ago. Her love for vintage machines and timeless fashion fuels her custom creations, made from natural fibers and inspired by classic patterns. After becoming a mom, Jess shifted her focus to building a business that aligns with her values, offering ethically made, affordable pieces for everyday wear.

Zora Feren from Knot Impressed

Zora, originally from Wisconsin, is a flatbed knitting machine enthusiast with a passion for blending 3D printing and fiber crafts. She is a recent SFU graduate with a Master’s degree in Communications. Zora’s fibre arts journey began during the pandemic with crochet, and she’s now deeply immersed in restoring vintage knitting machines, sharing her knowledge through her TikTok channel focused on repair and restoration. Welcoming Fibre lovers of all sorts and those who are fibre curious. Please join us for an event with focus on equality, accessibility and community.

With makers, artists and shops from across all aspect of the fibre world and more, we welcome you to explore, meet and make friends on September 29th. This is an unique event where the focus is on creating and fostering a community of like minded individuals and forming lasting frienships.

We believe in celebrating diversity and fostering an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and represented. We embrace artisans and fibre lovers  from all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities, and we are committed to creating a space where creativity knows no boundaries. 

From Acrylic, to Tencel, to Vicuna, ALL are welcome here.*

Shop the Marketplace, join the "Creating Welcoming Communities" talk lead by the fabulous Fatimah Hinds from Disturbing the Fleece, take a short Workshop, collaborate on our community art project and hang out in our Crafters Hangout Space. The Shipyards also offers a wide variety of outdoor seating and restaurants if you need a break. Did we mention there is a door prize raffle?

General Admission Tickets are just $10. Kids 16 and under are free to enter.

-Contact us for a free ticket for your care giver or support worker.

-Chairs will be close by if you need a sitting break in the middle of an aisle.

-Earplugs are available from our front desk if you forgot yours and the noise gets too loud. (finding a good fibre to squish can cause sudden and uncontrolable noises )

-Masks are mandetory by all attendees, vendors, staff and volunteers during the hours of 10am to 12pm

-Our Website xoxofibre.com and our socails have been designed with visual accessibility in mind.

-Vendors are all alotted the same amount of space regardless of their business success. Tables are chosen first come first served during registration. 

-Sponsorship packages start as low as $10 allowing those whos ethics aligh with ours a chance to support the
